WRN Launch Absolute Radio on Freesat
London, September 12 2008: WRN, the international London-headquartered TV and radio transmission company, is pleased to announce that it has launched Absolute Radio (formerly known as Virgin Radio) onto the Freesat platform. The UK's number one commercial radio station for the under 50s (Rajar Q2 08),
Following the hugely successful run of their channels on Sky since 2005, Absolute Radio is now available on Freesat channel 724. WRN has also launched sister stations Absolute Classic Rock and Absolute Xtreme onto channels 725 and 726 respectively.
Freesat is the brand new digital platform from the BBC and ITV, providing the first high definition digital TV and radio complete with interactivity, all from one subscription, contract-free box. Freesat makes HD TV available to 98% of UK households, some of which have previously been unable to benefit from this technology due to coverage, price or subscription contracts. To access all of these new channels a new customer simply purchases a receiver from a licensed distributor. Freesat provides its own EPG service, 'red button' functionality and inter-viewer interactivity through a standard broadband connection and set top boxes are able to record all programmes.
Since its launch in May 2008, consumer demand has already outstripped supply for Freesat dishes and sets. Boasting over 130 TV and radio channels thus far, Absolute Radio is joining a platform which already includes XFM, Capital, Choice and NME Radio.
"As ever, we're extremely keen to adopt new distribution media and make Absolute Radio available to listeners howsoever they wish to listen to us." Says Chris Lawson, Brand Director, Absolute Radio. "Digital innovation is in our DNA and continues to be of prime importance to us."
Sophie Wilson, Head of Sales and Business Development Manager at WRN, says: "WRN is always at the front of new platform developments and we are very pleased to have partnered with Absolute Radio to launch their stations on Freesat. We look forward to working with Absolute to help them realise their broadcasting objectives going forward."
WRN is able to supply satellite uplink and capacity and EPG services for Freesat and guide clients through the entire process of launching on the platform. For more information please contact [email protected]
