WRN announces acquisition of TSI Broadcast
Integrated company offers full-service digital workflow for TV and radio transmission.
London, April 21 2009: International broadcast and transmission company WRN today announces the acquisition of TSI Broadcast, the TV ingest and playout company. The deal will enable WRN to offer a state-of-the-art playout system with industry-leading hardware and software solutions.
Over the coming months the two companies will integrate under the WRN banner. The acquisition of TSI Broadcast provides WRN with an excellent platform for growth by expanding the service portfolio alongside its established broadcast management and solutions products as well as providing the opportunity to compete for larger projects. WRN will now offer its clients a more comprehensive product inventory in ingest, playout, streaming, encoding and transcoding.
David Treadway, Managing Director of WRN, says of the deal: "As a reasonably small but competitive player, WRN is already internationally renowned in the radio sector, although traditionally less known for our TV services despite the fact that we already have a substantial TV client list. The acquisition of TSI sends out a clear message to the international broadcast industry that TV is now very much part of our agenda, with playout, streaming and encoding services at the forefront of the services we offer. We look forward to working with TSI's existing clients alongside WRN's established customer base and further building on both companies' reputations for innovation, flexibility, excellence and service delivery."
Tim Ashburner, Director of Technology for WRN, adds: "The acquisition supports our strategic move to a digital workflow for existing clients as well as expanding the range of services we can offer new clients. It allows us to expand further into the sector in the coming months and confirms WRN's position as an expert in both radio and TV transmission and playout."
Nick Doff, Managing Director of TSI, says: "We were very pleased to have found a buyer that is such a great fit with the TSI ethos. WRN is highly respected in the industry, with over 16 years' experience under its belt, and I'm sure that it will make a great success of the purchase."
TSI's Dave Travis will be joining WRN as part of the deal to expand its depth of knowledge in the tapeless workflow. It is not anticipated there will be any job cuts resulting from the acquisition.
The integration process begins immediately and is expected to complete by September, at which point all playout and encoding services will operate from WRN's established base in Vauxhall, South London.
TSI's customers will transition to the WRN network from early May. There will be no gap in service.

About TSI
TSI Broadcast was formed in September 2006, when a group of like-minded media professionals led by TSI Transmission's former MD, Nick Doff, formed a company to buy TSI Transmission out of administration. A period of six months of redevelopment took place during which complete development and rebuild of the TSI facility was led by Dave Travis. TSI Broadcast broadened the company's services to include content management and delivery. Over the past two years, TSI has continued to grow and take on new clients, including substantial amounts of work for BT Vision, Top Up TV, Warner Bros, Camelot and Ocean Finance and a number of other key clients. www.tsibroadcast.com
