Dangerzone joins the WRN Networks
On 1st August 2009, WRN welcomed its newest network programme producer, Danger Zone, to the WRN airwaves. Danger Zone is a dynamic radio broadcast that focuses on developments in terrorism, international foreign policy, intelligence agencies, democratic movements and related security subjects, particularly "insider" news and expert interviews about events in America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and South and Central Asia.
Danger Zone is hosted by retired U.S. Ambassador Dick Carlson, former director of the Voice of America and a long time journalist, winner of dozens of awards, including the George Foster Peabody Award and four "Emmys". Retired US Marine Colonel Bill Cowan, a former special forces operator and Dr. Renee Garfinkel, who is widely published in the fields of peacemaking, terrorism, religion and a range of human behaviour and development issues, are the programme's co-host contributors.
"The show is unusual and we had a respectable following; intelligence operators, senior military officers, defense contractors, and citizens with an interest in security and foreign policy. But, I'll tell you when we went on WRN our international listenership really exploded. It has been a great adventure and we are grateful to WRN for their incredible carriage. We now have listeners from London to Vienna to Capetown, from Dublin to Tokyo. WRN's reach is incredible" said Ambassador Carlson.
Danger Zone broadcasts have delivered hundreds of hours of sophisticated international news and analysis on terrorism and international security, and more than 500 interviews with some of the world's most outstanding experts: essayists, foreign ministers, military flag officers, agents and former agent-runners and case officers from CIA, MI 5, the FBI, MI 6, the NSA and the KGB.
Danger Zone is an international radio programme made possible through the global reach of WRN.

Voice of Russia Celebrates 80th Anniversary
2009 is a jubilee year for the Voice of Russia as it celebrates its 80th anniversary. On October 29th 1929, the station (which was for many years known as Radio Moscow) commenced its first external broadcast in German, followed by French and English-language transmissions. The station has moved from being considered the propaganda mouthpiece of the Soviet Union to now explaining events in Russia and providing Russia's perspective on world affairs.
WRN has carried Voice of Russia for many years on its radio networks, as well providing a number of Short Wave services and internet streaming to enable VOR to reach listeners around the globe.
VOR's programming includes a number of national public service features, with content including news and current affairs, culture, science and the arts, all from a uniquely Russian perspective.
WRN is proud to be associated with Voice of Russia and congratulates it on reaching 80.

WARL New Rebroadcaster for WRN North American Network
WARL 1320AM is the latest station to join the ever-expanding portfolio of stations that take and rebroadcast content from the WRN radio networks. Broadcasting across Providence, Rhode Island and online; WARL is a small broadcaster with a big objective: to make a worldwide impact.
The addition of WRN North American to WARL's schedule will complement its existing broadcast schedule whilst providing news, current affairs and perspectives from all over the globe. Peter Arpin, President of WARL, says "We focus on positive energy with a unique set of programs. Beyond that, we deliver news and information, and try to source that information from unique places, hence our collaboration with WRN. We are one of the few positive voices right now within the cacophony of gloom and doom. We believe there are great stories out there, and we want to find and air them.''
Radio Guangdong Celebrates 60th Anniversary
For many years, in collaboration with WRN, the English service of Radio Guangdong has been instrumental in bringing news and views from this Southern Chinese province to a worldwide audience. The colourful, informative shows feature film stars and celebrities from the region, as well as people from outside of China who have decided to make Guangzhou their home.
This year, Radio Guangdong, along with the rest of China, celebrated the Peoples' Republic of China's 60th anniversary. In recognition of this, WRN focused an entire week of special mini feature programmes from Radio Guangdong throughout the week of September 26th - October 3rd, bringing more of the Cantonese sounds and flavours to audiences around the world.
Competitions were run to encourage listener feedback by email and were extremely successful, with comments from listeners as far flung as Germany, India, Ireland, New York, Malaysia, South Africa, and Ethiopia, amongst others. Perhaps the last word should go to this listener, from Trinidad:
"I wish to express my great appreciation to WRN for bringing Radio Guangdong and a slice of China each week to its worldwide listeners. It is indeed quite refreshing to hear domestic news and features from this southerly Chinese province of Guangzhou. How interesting it is to hear foreigners and locals alike speak on their fondness for living in this part of China with its various customs, unique cuisine, musical delights and other attractions to savour. Congratulations to Radio Guangdong for keeping us informed weekly on their part of the World! I hope soon they can be heard daily!"
